We are moving the switch that connects some ADSL to our network this evening. This is in preperation for some upgrades. This will cause a short outage. We anticipate this will be approxibately 7pm -8pm this evening with a 10-15 minute outage.

Various Server Upgrades

As part of our plan of improvements to the services we offer we are performing a range of upgrades to some of the shared servers here. The upgrades will take place over the next few days and *may* lead to a small period of downtime on some servers while live data is transferred.

We have tested all upgrades and do not anticipate any issues however if customers do see any issues please let us know via the normal support routes.

Server Upgrade – cfweb1

The above shared webserver will be available for a short while this evening to allow some essential upgrades. The sites will be moving to new hardware and we have tested most sites on the new server. The outage should not last more than an hour.

If there are any issues with sites after the upgrade please let us know via the normal support address.

Planned work – ADSL Platform

We will be performing some planned work on our ADSL platform on 14/01/2009 at 10am. This is a minor configuration change that should not have any affect on users connected. Please note that you may see a brief connection drop although that is not planned at this time.

This will only affect users who log in with a ‘@dsl’ login to our network.

Any problems please let support know in the normal way

Generator Maintenance

We are having planned maintenance on our backup generator at our Huntingdon Data Centre on 13th January 2009. While this should not affect any services as with anything there is a very small element of risk while this work is carried out.

Note that mains power will not be interrupted and our UPS systems are still in place though the maintenance

Christmas Opening 2008

The Merula office has now closed for Christmas 2008. The office will re-open on 5th January 2009. During this time we will be monitoring the network and services 24/7. We will also monitor email and tickets raised however we will not guarantee as fast a response as normal. Our phone lines will be answered and messages passed on as need be.

We look forward to working with all our customers in 2009 and wish you all a Happy Christmas and New Year

Recent email issues

We are aware that some users may have seen delays to emails over the last week or two. We have been investigating the cause and now have a plan of action to resolve these once and for all.

Earlier today we made a major change to the config on one of our AV /SPAM servers int he cluster here. Assuimg this is successful the same change will be rolled out to all remaining servers tomorrow and Monday and this should see an end to this issue.

We will update this post as soon as we have more details

‘At Risk’

During some initial tests on our generator today in advane of the maintanance work on Friday engineers have found a suspect control board. This controls and monitors the generator and is not directly involved in the power feed to our racks.

As part of the work on Friday it is planned to replace this board and resolve the data issue currently being seen. This work should not cause any issues at all, but since this is working on live equiment there is always a risk of an unexpected issue.

We currently don’t have a time for this work to be completed but we will update here as soon as possible

Generator maintanance / test

As part of the maintenance at our data centre in Huntington we will have engineers performing maintenance on  one of our generators on the morning of July 11th. There should be no outage or problems related to this but it will reduce resilience  while this takes place.

Brief network bounce this morning

As part of our preperation to perform more diagnostics on one of our routers in Telehouse North following the issues we have been seeing with it we have made some changes to the network configuration. These will also reduce the reliance on this router and therefore mean that any further issues will not be customer affecting.

During the config change you *may* have seen a very brief network issue to some locations however this should not have lasted more than 2-3 minutes at a maximum. All work is now complete and if you are still seeing any issues please contact support in the normal manner.

We apologise for the lack of notice here but wanted to ensure that any furter issue did not cause any problems
